Volenteers Help in Flood Stricken Ottery St Mary ...
A team of volunteers from Exeter City and East Devon Conservative Future piled into a car early this morning and drove to Ottery St Mary in an effort to assist with the clean-up operation after the devastating floods of Wednesday night.
The team, all young lads from Exeter, spent the day helping stricken elderly residents clear routes out of their houses and assisted council workers with the clearance of streets. Speaking to the local residents, there was a tremendously strong sense of community as all the residents came out to help one another.
Mud splattered James Morton, the Chairman of Devon and Cornwall Conservative Future, commented “It is at a time like this that you truly see the heart of the community coming out. It is not the time to make a dig at our government or council; it’s time we should be working together to get this historic town back on its feet and to some form of normality.”
“We saw the news yesterday evening and felt that a team of young energetic students could be of help – we really didn’t have any idea what we would do, but it was better to be here and offer our services than sit at home commenting on how awful it looked.”
